JP’s Exe to Axe 2024

JP’s Exe to Axe, Sunday 7th April 2024

“…a brute of a race with some outstanding views…”, previously voted one of the best races in the country.

Start Time: 10am. Race end: 5pm. Please note that the cut-off is 7 hours  the same as last year, up from previous years when the cut-off time was 6 hours.

Change of Start Location and Registration

The toilet block at Foxholes is imminently due to be demolished and a new toilet built. Alternative arrangements nearby are not suitable and so the start location has had to be moved. Registration will now be at Ocean (Exmouth EX8 2AY ///magic.become.friday).

Repairs to the seawall mean that the start of the race will now be beyond these works about 200 metres from Ocean (Mickeys Beach Bar & Restaurant ///basic.wooden.phones).

About the Race

The race starts at the Foxes Hole Car Park on the Exmouth Sea Front with a mass start at 10:00. The route follows the South West Coast Path for 22 miles and finishes at the Esplanade at Seaton. This is the 20th year of the race. Originally the distance was just over 20 miles, but a landslip in June 2012 on the outskirts of Seaton has led to a detour which means the distance is now nearer 22 miles. The race has been renamed JP’s Exe to Axe in memory of John Perratt, founding member and long-term Treasurer of Sidmouth Running Club, and a huge contributor to the sport throughout East Devon.

The race is for individuals and relay teams, dogs are not permitted. There are drink stations at Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth Sailing Club, Branscombe Mouth, and of course at the finish at Seaton. There will be a back marker marshal. The route follows the coastal path all the way so keep the sea on your right and follow the acorn signs.
