Running Into 2026

Mighty Greens gathered at the flag pole on Boxing Day, eager to blow away the cobwebs and disperse some calories from the previous day.  Led by Jon Ball, the traditional Dambusters manoeuvre  took place down the grassy part of Salcombe Hill; always a sight to behold!

Several SRC runners, young and old, took part in park runs, including the double festive challenge, Christmas Day and New Years Day, despite some venues having to cancel due to icy conditions.  Clare Bray was very pleased to start 2026 with a course PB (Exmouth) and new PB, 28:37. Junior Seth Box finished first in age group running his first parkrun at Greendale who were celebrating their first birthday and MG’s Toby De Gruchy and Nathaniel Thomas finished first and second! Thanks go to MG Clive Gilbert who writes a park run round up report each week on the club’s FB page and finished 8th at Greendale.

Eight runners from the club entered Winding Path’s Final Countdown on New Years Eve.  It was a beautiful clear frosty morning but Karen Farnham said by the time they got to the top of Peak Hill from the start on the seafront, they soon warmed up.  Tania Peters said the support was fantastic and it was great to see so many MG’s volunteering too.  Roger Worthington was the first male SRC to finish in 55:45, 42nd in a field of 276 and Tania was the first female SRC to finish not far behind Roger in 56:15, 45th place.  Results: Roger Worthington 55:45; Tania Peters 56:15; Scott Chown 1:01:54; Christine Farnham 1:05:50; Karen Farnham 1:07:22; Emily Prince 1:19:35; Sarah Clapham 1:21:28 and Lucia Hofstetter 1:24:07.

Whilst locally runners were being cautious of adventuring out on the ice, Mighty Green Kate Marriott ran the PolarNight marathon in Norway, finishing sub 4 hours in minus 10 degrees!
