Parkrun 300th Milestone

Sidmouth Running Club’s David Skinner ran his 300th park run at Killerton on Saturday, almost 9 years to the day he ran his first park run at Killerton.  David is only the 2nd Mighty Green to reach this milestone and runs in the VM75-79 category-a fabulous achievement. Further afield Derek Blackburn took part in the Kuala Lumpur park run in Malaysia, his 11th different country he has competed in, Jason Blount ran in sub zero conditions in Zielony Jar, Poland and Clive Gilbert ran the park run in Barry Island, picking up the lingo along the way; da iawn pawb-well done everyone!

With head torches donned a posse of Mighty Greens headed to Sportiva Events’ 5k Haldon Night trail race on Saturday.  The club’s newest senior member Polly Iddon had a fantastic run finishing in 8th place out of a field of 124, 2nd female in 29.50.  Her son Lucas running in the 10/11 age category was the next SRC to finish in 35:06 with junior leader Grahame Womersley-Westlake and junior Christopher Witkowski seconds behind.  Nine year old Amelia Womersley finished in 43:42 with her mum and junior leader Donna Womersley-Westlake.

Sidmouth Running Club was represented by 9 runners at the Budleigh Blister on Sunday. Based at Budleigh Cricket Club, this was a new venue and new route from organisers Exmouth Harriers and everyone enjoyed the 10 mile route following part of the coastal path along mixed terrain.  Mark Andow was the first MG male to finish in 1:24:14, 57th in a field of 181 and Christine Farnham the first female MG to finish in 1:37:28, 116th.  Results: Karen Farnham 1:39:08; Janice Ransom 1:46:16; Naomi Garrick 1:53:06; Richard King 1:53:08; Cath Miller 2:02:07; Jane Hemsworth 2:02:08; Helen Palmer 2:02:11

Run leader Alice Gill took a group of MG’s out on Sunday to recce Weston and Buckton trigs ahead of the Four Trigs event on Sunday 9th February (places still available).  The route was remarkably mud free although the rough terrain meant a few slips and trips but everyone remained upright. Alice had made peanut butter stuffed, chocolate coated dates which everyone enjoyed on Weston beach and it gave them an energy boost to  get up the other side of the valley.
