Marathon Madness

Sidmouth Running Club’s Clive Gilbert thoroughly enjoyed his daughter’s present to him, a place in the London Landmarks half marathon! The Mighty Green achieved a new PB, 1:44:49 and came 60th out of 520 in his age group. Clive highly recommends this event for the entertainment, t-shirt, goodie bag and bling and cheekily told fellow MG’s, Mark Norton, Bob Huntington and Cameron Baker that he had checked out part of the London Marathon route for them!

It was their first experience of running the London marathon, and in Cameron’s case, his first time running a marathon.  Cam said it was an experience like no other, the atmosphere and non-stop crowd cheering really does carry you through. Bob and Mark were running for the Devon Air Ambulance charity and have collected over £4,000 between them. Bob,70,  was hoping for a better time but found there were many runners suffering around the 20 mile mark which made running through them really tricky. Mark finished in 4:40:40, Bob 4:42:06 and Cam in 5:40:53.

Blazing a trail closer to home Ella Fletcher and Louise Dalton continue to go from strength to strength. Ella competed in LME’s Maer half marathon, where despite the 1000 feet of elevation, finished second female with a PB of 1:43:19 and Louise, despite tired legs from last week’s Manchester marathon, ran 2 x the height of Snowdon on a hot day in Winding Path’s Total Coastal. Louise dug deep as she ran 50k of the SW coast path from Kingswear to Shaldon to finish first female and 7th overall in 6:29:06.
