SRC’s Mark Andow completed his first multi-day ultra last weekend on the Ridgeway, Britain’s oldest trail. The Mighty Green ran 28, 27 and 28 mile over three days along winding paths through the stunning autumn countryside and was delighted to finish with no blisters!
Closer to home Louise Dalton and Alice Gill also completed an ultra-marathon.
Louise took part in Climb South West’s Salt Settlers Six, a 6 hour race around the lower Otter Valley to complete as many 4.4k loops as possible. The Mighty Green set a new female course record, 40.82 miles in 5:39:00, and finished first female and first overall, running an incredible 15 loops!
Alice put her training to the test to compete in Climb South West’s 8 Trigs ultra marathon. This event took place alongside the Salt Settlers Six and the route took Alice along the eastern and western side of the Otter Valley to six of the trig points and then over to the Sid Valley for the last two. Alice thoroughly enjoyed the friendly and supportive event and had enough energy for a sprint finish! The Mighty Green completed the ultra in 8:07:04, third female.
The awesome foursome, Ann Cole, Brigid Eleney-McSmith, Jo Earlam and Jane Hemsworth opted for the half marathon option. They enjoyed each other’s company (and Barry’s from Dorset from mile 5) and had great fun running through wonderful scenery in the autumnal sunshine. Their 3 trig route kept them on the western side of the Otter Valley avoiding the biggest hills and they finished together in 3:52:05.
