Another Half for SRC’s Clare Luke

Exactly one week on from completing the Great West Run half marathon, Clare Luke took part in Winding Paths’ Wray half marathon with fellow Mighty Green Sarah Watkins.

Starting from Bovey Tracey the route takes you along the old railway line through Lustleigh to Mortenhampstead where you turn back.  Clare and Sarah enjoyed the lovely route, friendly atmosphere and wonderful medals they received on crossing the finish line in 2:41:11.

Sidmouth Running Clubs’ vice chairman Derek Blackburn has been in Scandinavia this week enjoying not one, but two parkruns; when he originally told SRC’s park run reporter Clive Gilbert of his Nordic adventure he was slightly disbelieving – “Norway” he said!

Copenhagen was his first destination on Thursday and on Saturday he was in Sweden, the country of ABBA. A Super Trouper to tackle a second parkrun in three days but adding another country to his parkrun list was always the Name of The Game. At the finish he said he felt Bjorn Again!

Back in the UK, we also had another great quartet – four Mighty Greens at each of four different parkruns – Cranbrook (Sarah Clapham, Scott Chown, Emma Grainger, & David Skinner), Exmouth (Catherine Hilton, Judith Jeeves, Rob Edwards, & Lesley Miszewska), Killerton (Amelia, Grahame and Donna Womersley-Westlake, & Emily Prince) and Seaton (Mark Norton, Emily Smith, John Sharples, & Steve Saunders). Sarah, Emma, Amelia and Mark were all 1st in Age Group, Catherine and Emily S set new PBs, and Emily P was running Killerton for the first time.

Other Devon participants included Chris and Caroline Carter completing Torbay Velopark for the first time, and Bex McDonald and myself both picking up PBs at Greendale. Also, spotted at Greendale were Janice Ranson (marshalling) and 10 year old Lucas Withecombe, one of our Juniors who finished in a speedy 23:04!

On the tourist trail, Rivers in Wales were a core theme – with Fiona Pavelin at Riverside Walk (Hay on Wye) and Debbie & Don Cawthera at Riverfront (Newport, Gwent).

Elsewhere Jack Saunders was at University Parks (Oxford). Finally, Jason Blount was at Fleetwood Promenade – no Mac required today.
