On Saturday, Sidmouth Running Clubs’ parkrun reporter Clive Gilbert ran at Melksham parkrun before taking part in a very special 10k event, 90 minutes later. Clive represented the Mighty Greens at his son’s regiment, REME, on the base where he undertook his training as an Armourer, MOD Lyneham, Wiltshire. It was their ‘Lifting The Decks’ 10k around the former RAF Lyneham airbase in aid of REME’s mental health initiative. Ezra, Clive’s cocker spaniel joined in too, sporting his REME collar and lead. Clive said it was an absolute privilege to run alongside his son at his regimental HQ in a poignant week for our armed services. Clive, with Ezra’s help, finished 33rd out of 165 in 48:06.
Several juniors were out representing the club over the weekend including Marcus Wieffer, Amelia Womersley-Westlake and Emily Smith at different parkruns. Emily managed a Triple Crown at Seaton-a new PB, 1st in age group and her 25th parkrun milestone. On Sunday Rex Wheaton took part in the 1 mile fun run, organised by Honiton Running Club alongside the Ottery 10k. Rex was delighted to finish in 5th place and received a box of chocolates as well as a medal.
One of the 16 SRC runners to take part in the Ottery 10k, MG Louise Dalton was on fire again this week, finishing in 41:24, 22nd out of a field of 305 and first female to finish. Roger Worthington was the first SRC male to finish in 47:43, with the majority of MG’s finishing under the hour.
Sunday saw Bob Huntington do something that he’d never imagined possible a couple of years ago-run a marathon! The Mighty Green took part in Exeter City Community Trust’s ‘Exeter Live Better Marathon’ and finished 3rd in his age category, M65, in 4:38:28.
