A Mighty Green Presence At Sidbury 3 Peaks Challenge and Fun Run

Sidmouth Running Club were out in force on Sunday at the Sidbury 3 Peaks Challenge, possibly due to the short distance they had to travel but mainly because it was a brand new event promising spectacular panoramic views over the Sid Valley and EDAONB.

The 30+ Mighty Greens ascended Castle Hill, Bald Hill and Evergreen Hill on the beautiful Sidbury Manor Estate in a 10k circular route in glorious conditions with SRC’s Ella Fletcher finishing first female overall and first in her age category in 53:46 out of a field of 111.

The club also had six age category winners; M55 Richard Summerhayes 51:10, F55 Naomi Garrick 1:11:42, M60 Roger Worthington 1:00:30, F60 Christine Farnham 1:11:42, M65 Colin Ryan 59:49 and F70 Ann Cole 1:45:08.

It was a double SRC victory in the 3k fun run too. Six juniors ran along with leaders Grahame and Donna Womersley-Westlake, who said the 120m of hills were no joke! Alfie Waller stormed round in 15 minutes to finish first junior and it was thanks to Alfie that Grahame finished first adult as he was trying to keep him in sight!

There was a great turn out for the summer social, Sun, Sea and Sandwiches, organised by chairman Terry Bewes. This involved a low tide run along the sand, wading around the rock groins and team games followed by a delicious tea at the Bedford Hotel.

The club welcomes new members throughout the year; our club night trail runs are about to change back to road runs starting from St Johns School, our junior group resumes after the Summer break and the social Bimble and Brew continues on Tuesday mornings from the flagpole on the seafront with options to walk or run 5k.
