The Heat Was On!

Three intrepid Sidmouth Running Club members travelled down to Plymouth on Friday to take part in the Hope Ultra Festival. The challenge was to complete as many 5 mile loops as possible in 36 hours and if that was not challenging enough the heat certainly was! Only three weeks earlier Louise Dalton had run from Poole to Exmouth and still managed to complete 16 laps 80 miles, Naomi Garrick managed a PB using all the allocated time, 14 laps 70 miles and Amanda Stokes completed 10 laps 50 miles. Several members of the club were tracking their progress and were in awe of their ability in the intense heat and suffering from falls, blisters and nausea.

Closer to home many SRC members got involved with the Otter River and Rail 10k event, marshalling or running it.  Additional water stations and a hope pipe were implemented to help keep the runners cool which was much appreciated. Roger Worthington was the first male SRC to finish in 51:25, 27th overall and 3rd in his age category (M60) and Christine Farnham was the first SRC female to finish in 1:02:53, 2nd in her age category (F60).
