Saturday saw 30+ Mighty Green juniors and adults take part in Tipton’s River and Rail fun run and 10k. SRCs’ Adrian Harris, Catherine Hylton, Jo Earlam and Naomi Garrick all played a part in organising the event which raises funds for Tipton Playing Field Association.
After Naomi’s warm up the juniors were raring to go, especially SRC’s Lucas Withycombe who finished second in 7 minutes and Reuben Johnson in 7:40. Not far behind, Rex and Arlo Wheaton crossed the line in 8 minutes, Amelia Womersley-Westlake in 9:40 and 6 year old Lucia Withycombe in 10.40. The fun runners had an extra treat to go with their jelly snake, a slate medal created by Adrian.
Kate Marriott was the first Mighty Green to complete the scenic off road 10k route following public footpaths and rights of way along the river and disused railway line. Finishing in 45:05, Kate was first in her age category, 3rd female and 19th overall out of a field of 265. Roger Worthington also had a great run, first SRC male finishing in 49:12, second in his age category. Special mentions go to Alice Gill and Deb Cawthera who came second in their age categories and Scott Chown who shaved 6 minutes and 58 seconds off last years’ time!
