The Sidmouth Running Club juniors have been enjoying a variety of sessions on a Wednesday evening including a torch lit trail run on Muttersmoor in the drizzle and a very strenuous plyometrics and mobility session with Josh Solman from JMS Training.
Some of the juniors and leaders put their training to good use on Saturday when they took part in the Otterton reindeer calf run. The 3k route starts with a long uphill stretch where the temptation to walk is great but the Mighty Greens kept a steady pace going and were soon on the downward stretch running along country lanes and paths heading back to the finish line at the church. Jude finished in 6th place in 18:30 with Amelia and Grahame not far behind finishing in 19:23. All finishers received a reindeer medal complete with a red nose which Jack in particular was very pleased to receive as it was his first event he has run in.
There were plenty of festive looking Mighty Green adults taking part in the 10k event which started after a fun warm up. They all enjoyed running along the picturesque route, appreciating the sun and blue skies and grateful that the organisers had delayed the event by a week because of Storm Darragh. Colin Ryan was the first SRC male to finish in 49:20, 19th out of a field of 134. Catherine Hilton was the first SRC female to finish in 1:03:43 with Sarah Clapham hot on her heels finishing in 1:04:03.
Reindeer Run 10k results: Colin Ryan 49:20, Mark Wynn 52:18, Catherine Hilton 1:03:43, Sarah Clapham 1:04:03, Fiona Pavelin 1:08:03, Naomi Garrick 1:08:18, Richard King 1:08:19, Katy Cartwright 1:11:28, Marion Johnson 1:19:27, Ann Cole 1:22:45, Julia Haddrell 1:29:53.
