What's Happening in 2012!

We will meet back on 7 January at Salcombe Hill car Park at 9 a.m.

For the rest of the month it will be as normal at Core Copse also at 9 in the morning

Happy New Year to all the Juniors and everyone at the running club.

From Janet

Saturdays 12th and 26th of November will be as normal at Core Copse starting at 9 in the morning but on Saturday 19th November the Club is organising another “Guess your Time Run”. This will also be at Core Copse but starting at 2.00 in the afternoon.

It is a Fun event with a choice of easy 2 or 4 mile courses. The tricky bit is that you have to guess how long it will takeyou and let us know before you set off. Watches are not allowed on the run and the one in each distance closest to his estimated time is the winner. Emphasis is not on running quickly so you can either really go for it or just have an easy relaxed run trying to match up with your guestimated time.  It is good fun and some runners seem to be able to get very close to their predictions.Fancy Dress is good but optional. I think it adds to the fun. Afterwards everyone is invited to the Hare & Hounds for some refreshment and there is an indoor play area there so that everyone is catered for.

Please also put Saturday 3rd December in you Diary. That is the day of the Reindeer Run at Otterton. There is a 3k Fun Run and we traditionally do that instead of the Core Copse session. Fancy Dress is welcome and there is a very good Christmasy atmosphere.

Enjoy your Running

Janet

NEWS FROM JANET - 25th JULY 2011

Hello Everyone

Great to see everyone today with such enthusiasm and energy. Just a reminder that the Beat the Bus or Beat Bertie the bus takes place this Wednesday the 29th June at 6.45pm from Otterton Green. The fun run is a mile long, so you have had a good practise at that distance today.

Then next weekend, on Saturday July 2nd, the Tipton Fun Run takes place.  We will meet on Tipton playing field at 10ish, earlier if you need
to enter as it does get busy.  There is a small club house just after the tennis courts on the right.  It is £3 for the fun run and make sure that
your parents are entering the 10km!!.  There is a fete and fun day there, so let's hope the sun shines.

I am on  a course next Saturday but Lesley and Helen (Sidmouth Running Club coaches) have offered to take a warm up, so make sure you
meet them , as that warm up will make the main run much easier and your muscles will appreciate it!!

The following Saturday, we will be back to Core Copse as normal.

Here is the website for the South West Athletics Academy which has a relay challenge on the 9th July at Exeter Arena from 12-2pm
It is £6 a team or £1.50 each.  , there are also other events going on.......

Tel 07745 616852  or  07745 616852        This for all ages, under 9's thru to veterans

Well done everyone, really impressed with your effort today

NEWS FROM JANET - 11 JUNE 2011

On the left we can see Flurry and Dulcie Grierson with their Trophies for the most improved Juniors in the year up to the end of March. Big brother Kit should also have been there as he won the Men's Cross Country Cup but unfortunately he is doing his GCE SE's this term and had his head doing revision. Well done to all the Griersons!

It was so good to see you all on Saturday, what great attitudes and determination! We will be meeting at Core Copse for the next 2 Saturdays and then on the first Saturday of July, we will meet at Tipton St. John for the Otter Rail and River Fun Run. This is a 1.5 mile off road run starting at 10.30. We have done it a few times before and it is a good course. There will also be a Summer Fair on the Playing Fields so there will be something for the whole family.

After that it will be back to Core Copse each Saturday at 9 am until the 23rd July. In the meantime I would like to see more of you at the time trials which take place on the 3rd Wednesday of the month on Muttersmoor in June and July. That is the 15 this month and the 20th next month.  It is a 2 mile route and very flat and a great way to see how you improve over the summer months.

There is also the Beat the Bus Race on Wednesday 29 June and this year there is a special One Mile Race for Juniors which will start shortly after the Main race which leaves when the Bus arrives at (hopefully) 6.37 pm. Entry is only £2 and you can enter on the day.

See you next week........Janet

NO JUNIORS SESSION THIS SATURDAY (4th JUNE) BUT BACK AT CORE COPSE AGAIN NEXT SATURDAY (12th JUNE)

There will be no session at Core Copse next Saturday because of the Spring Bank Holiday but there is still plenty for you young runners to do. On the Monday (which is the holiday) there is the Sid Vale Sports day and Fete with something for the whole family so why not come along and join the fun at the Sidford Rugby Ground.

It starts off sharp at two o'clock with a cross ountry race. Under 16s have to do 2 laps of the course which entails splashing across the River Sid a few times so it is a proper cross country course and great fun. After that there will be the usual track races for all ages, boys and girls right down to toddlers, novelty races and even a Tug-of -War competition. Lots of cash prizes and trophies to be won, so let's see if you can take some of that home.

Looking further ahead there is a 3k Fun Run for children at Farway School on Sunday 19 June. It starts at 10.00 am at the Farway Village Hall and is followed at 10.45 by a 10k race for 15 year olds and over. Entries will be accepted on the day but an entry form can be downloaded from www.farway.devon.sch.uk

This coming Saturday (26 March) we were to have held our Cross Country Championship but this has now been postponed for a short while. Details of the event will be announced in due course.

In the meantime we will be back at Core Copse as usual on the 19th at 9 o'clock and here is a quick note about the Honiton Calf Run which is organised by the Honiton Running Club and involves a run of about 3km through woods and fields and over a stream so sounds like fun. Last year there were 60 junior runners taking part and this year we expect more. An entry form can be downloaded from our 'Race' page.

Hope to see you soon..........Janet
