Events to look out for

Recommended events and notices:

  • Club Outings, 24th September and 8th October.
If there is enough support we are proposing two club coach outings.
The first on September 24th is to the Killerton Trail Races where there are Half Marathon, 10k and 5k races so a distance for every club member.
The second is to the Muddifords Cheese Run near Cullompton on Oct. 8th. This is a 5 mile charity fun run so no times, in aid of the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance and an opportunity for us all to run together as a club and support the cause. The event ends at Muddiford Court with live music, BBQ, Tom’s Toasties plus a goody bag which I am informed will include some Wyke cheese.
If you would like to enter either names to me please. For Killerton by September 12th and for Muddifords by September 25th.
  • Guess the Time of your Run and Cream Tea, Saturday 9th September.
Following on from our very successful BBQ and to mark the end of the Summer runs we are going to have another Club get together. This will be at Tipton St John playing fields on Saturday September 9th gathering at 2pm. There will be a “Guess the Time of your Run” for “Yummy Mummies” or “Gorgeous Daddies”complete with off springs in prams, buggies or just dragging them around. Older children who can run on their own and a 3 mile flat course for the adults. These races are not about speed, you tell me the time you think you will complete the course in and the nearest person to their time wins. So runners challenge your spouse to run, jog walk the course and then live it down when they get closer than you do. There are prizes to be won and a free cream tea. Bring a picnic and booze if you like for a laid back and fun afternoon.
We can only cater for those who put their names down so you will be given a voucher. Let me have your name and how many vouchers you require for your family and friends by Monday 4th September. My e-mail is: terry@zakia.co.uk
Becky is away at the moment but we are hoping she will be able to present the trophies for the Time Trials along with a collection of spot prizes, so if you took part in the Time Trials, be there.
There will of course be no timing devices allowed on the run, you will be strip searched before the start!!!
Come on down your time is right.
    Terry

Spot a pair of trousers in the fore ground...

Are you running back for your trousers? Or is it the surviving evidence of a long lost trail runner?

Where are you Paul

It was great to run with you to Frederiek Dijkema. Why not bring a few of your running club with you next time, show them what hills are, I am sure we could sort something out.

Any advice re running if you might have a stress fracture in your foot? I'm new to running and have been referred for an xray. Frustrating as I was training for the Great West Run. Thanks Christie.

Not sure whether to do any short runs as I am guessing I might have a long wait for an xray.

Hey Christie, when i had a stress fracture in my Fibula , i was put in plaster for six weeks....so i would possibly say NO to running until Xray!!!

Get a good sports physio for rehab: Josh @ Jurassic Physio is great.

Only answer to a stress fracture in the foot is a complete rest from high impact activities such as running for 6-8 weeks, followed by building up the mileage gradually, avoiding hard surfaces initially. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but starting running too early can lead to delayed recovery at best and a complete fracture at worst. Agree with Louise and recommend going to a sports injury physio for specialist advice.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Sorry about your foot Christie Ward!

Not the festival run! In honour of JP's festival run, on Sunday, setting off from the sailing club 9am, eta 9.20ish Mutter's Moor car park (if you want to start from there) for a circumnavigation of the route, plus assorted extras. Morris fancy dress optional! Not an official event btw, just something I came up with because I plan to run Sunday morning and happy to have some company. ... See MoreSee Less

Fantastic I would have loved to join you, sadly my injury prevents me, enjoy

Lovely idea but we're in London for the athletics. Have fun xx

Lovely idea Jo. Not sure if I will be running or cycling xx

What distance Jo?

The run was a 10km starting from Jacobs Ladder, with the extra bit along the seafront would be about 8 miles. But could be shorter loops or indeed longer extras to suit all.

Job I will be running 🏃 see you tomorrow xx

I would love to have Jo, unfortunately can't , but I will be thinking about JP tomorrow & remembering all our wonderful festival runs 😍😍

I will join you pls!
